Ken nails the Swamp Pop sound. I am a regular listener of KLRZ's Swamp Pop afternoon show, so this CD is just like my afternoon drive home. My roommate, Dorothy DeCuir, used to work with Ken. She introduced me to his music. Lee Lashover
Ken, this is great. I will probably see you 11-8-08. So you can sign my CD. It really out does the other one. Dorothy A. DeCuir
memories... the sound is like slow dancing and the smell of British Sterling cologne...this CD would be perfect for driving down river road with the top down....what top? From a friend of Dorothy and Lee allyson
Ken MarvelSwamp Pop Music By Dale “LeBlanc” Johnson Bayou Country KVRM Nevada City, CA Ken Marvel is one of the best songwriters and has one of the best voices in Swamp Pop music land. He and his band hail from East Texas, the area some call “Lapland” where Cajun country “laps” over into Texas. His band is very tight and seasoned. Ten of the 12 cuts in this release are Marvel originals. Keyboard and accordion are deftly handled by Marvel along with his vocals. The horn section is like a big band all by itself. The cuts I like best are those with traditional “triplets” done in slow two-step tempo. My favorites here are the opener “Old Swamp Pop Song,” “Wondering”, and “Oh My My.” In the up-tempo arena my favorites are “$1.88” (which leads to a request for help from the FBI) and “Ain’t Gonna Take It.” J.K. Russell Dohmanon 12/16/2008 Swamp Pop Music Ken; you have certainly brought to us a special infusion of cheerful, sad, romantic, and very fun Swamp Pop Music to our ears. So much to share with others who haven't yet heard such great stuff! I will definitely tell my friends! Do consider a Christmas CD when you get around to it. That should be just as "Great"!
----------- A few years ago, Dale Guidry from LA Cajun Stuff came to the radio station with a CD and asked me what I thought of it. The CD was titled Mr. Swamp Pop and the artist was Ken Marvel. I enjoyed the songs so much that I downloaded the whole CD into the mix that very same day. Since then he has come out with another CD titled Ken Marvel Swamp Pop Music, and it’s just as good as the first. The great thing about Ken is that he writes most of the songs himself, and his latest CD is made up of all originals. These two CD’s are a must have for your collection! I’ve had the opportunity to meet Ken, and watched him perform…. He’s outstanding in my opinion!
